Beyoncé is not just known for her fantastic dancing skills, her catchy music or her expensive celebrity lifestyle—she is also well known for her humanitarian work.
In 2012, Beyoncé was one of many people who promoted Worldwide Humanitarian Day—a day meant to encourage people to think about those who are in need of help, and then actively do something to help them. To help the cause, she posted a list of “10 good deeds” that people could undertake in order to help those around them. Her 10 good deeds were intended to get people to take that first step out there and become actively involved in something that benefited another human being, whether that person was in need of food or just someone who may need a listening ear. The following are Beyoncé’s “10 good deeds” for World Humanitarian Day 2012, from her official website.
1. Offer your ear to someone in need
Sometimes, all someone needs is another person to listen and give them a sympathetic ear.
2. Bring flowers to a friend who’s been feeling down or sick
Flowers can really cheer up someone’s day—especially if they’re unexpected!
3. Raise money for a local charity
Donating to a local charity has the added benefit of helping out people who need help in your area!
4. Rescue an animal from your local shelter
Shelter animals are always in need of loving homes—especially older dogs or cats that are often overlooked in favor of “babies.”
5. Compliment a complete stranger
A genuine compliment can really make someone’s day!
6. Volunteer in a local soup kitchen
Soup kitchens benefit many people who are unable to find regular food, and are always in need of volunteers to give a helping hand.
7. Take a friend’s children out for the day
Who doesn’t need a break from the kids every once in a while? Do a friend a good favor and give them a break! 8. Offer your seat to someone who needs it
This small good deed can make the difference between a comfortable or painful ride! Keep up with beyonce here.
